… A Place to Grow and ServeOn the next few pages are descriptions of most of Mount Olive’s ministries. Please review and prayerfully choose a ministry that will allow you to grow and serve. This is your opportunity to get involved. Contacts are listed for each ministry if you need additional information. Your Ministry Guide will assist you as you consider where you will serve.
Audiovisual Ministry: Operates lighting, sound, and video equipment during worship services; produces CD, and MP3 files; and provides technical support at special programs such as concerts, weddings, memorial services, etc. Contact: Trustee Rubin Cuffee
Black History Committee: Coordinates and promotes the annual Black History Month observance and organizes group events, activities, and programs designed to stimulate and strengthen an interest in appreciation for the celebration of African-American history and culture. Contact: Sister Joanne Johnson
Children’s Church: Teaches children to worship God and to live for Him through study and activities designed to reach them at their various developmental stages. Contact: Brother Bobby Harris
Christian Education: Provides avenues of learning and study that will enable all to continuously develop in the knowledge of God and His Holy Word that leads to service to God and others. Contact: Rev. Amanda Rhome
Computer Ministry: Maintains the MOBC website; provides graphic design assistance to other ministries upon request; facilitates basic computer training classes; provides technical support to the computer lab, church administration/operations; and makes recommendations for technology upgrades. Contact: Deacon Taye Ladipo
Decoration Committee: Decorates the sanctuary and fellowship hall for all major church celebrations involving meal service and for other events as requested by individual ministries. Contact: Sister Darlene Bryant
Drama Ministry: Portrays the life and message of Christ throughout the year during Christian holidays and special occasions. Contact: Sister Valerie Cuffee
Family Life Ministry: Assimilates new members, communicates church information, and meets the needs of members. The membership is divided and placed into twelve family groups named after the Disciples of Christ: Andrew, Bartholomew, James Alphaeus, James Zebedee, John, Matthew, Mathias, Peter, Philip, Simon, Thaddeus, and Thomas. Food Services Committee: Prepares and oversees meal preparation for major church celebrations and other events and memorial services as requested. Contact: Sister Edna Ewell
Golden Saints Ministry: Honors and supports the seasoned members through an annual celebration, regular visitation, cards, and prayers. Contact: Min. Sandra Chew
Health Ministry: Promotes the maintenance of good health through blood pressure screenings, workshops/training, and health information, and responds to medical emergencies during worship services. Contact: Deaconess Carol Johnson Hospitality Committee: Greets all as they enter and exit the church before and after Sunday worship services and other events as requested, and gives tokens to first time visitors. Liturgical Dance Ministry: Offers powerful praise through God-inspired movements that honor and reverence Him. Contact: Sister Dorothy Griffin
Men’s Ministry: Supports the spiritual development of men into Christ-likeness through monthly fellowship and study so that they become effective leaders in their homes, communities, church, and the nation. Contact: Rev. Woodrow Cooper
Missionary Society: Meets the physical and spiritual needs of families and communities through local and foreign missions. Contact: Sister Jeanette Howard
Music and Praise Ministry: Leads the congregation in praising God through music and singing. Contact: Sister Valerie Cuffee
New Members’ Ministry: Meets new members where they are in their Christian walk, assimilates them into membership, and prepares them for their path to discipleship. Contact: Deacon Bill Austin
Nursery Committee: Provides a learning and nurturing environment for children less than four years old during worship services. Contact: Sister Seijra Toogood
Outreach Ministry/ Public Relation: Oversees all newspaper ads and events for the church, mails postcards to neighbors, places door hangers in communities about church information and upcoming events, witnesses in communities, and follows up with visitors. Contact: Sister Audrey Washington
Prayer Warriors: Offers intercessory prayer continuously for the Pastor, First Lady and Family, the Church leadership, the needs of people in the congregation, and the community. Contact: Brother Jay Ross
Prison Ministry: Shares the Gospel with those incarcerated in local, state or federal institutions and reaches out to their families. Contact: Rev. James Murphy
Recreation Ministry: Plans and offers recreational activities designed to promote leadership, unity, and fitness. Contact: Trustee Tony Crosby
Scholarship Committee: Provides ongoing educational and financial aid information to high school students and their families and manages the MOBC scholarship grant program benefiting graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education. Contact: Brother Charles Whitney
Security Ministry: Ensures the safety of members and visitors during worship services. Contact: Trustee Roland Williams
Singles’ Ministry: Encourages and supports single Christians through personal and spiritual development, fellowshipping, and Biblical studies that they may minister to others. Contact: Rev. Brenda McBorrough
Transportation Ministry: Uses professionally certified drivers to provide round-trip transportation to church sponsored events, conferences, retreats and association meetings. Contact: Trustee Cleveland Daffin
Tutorial Ministry: Provides individual and group tutoring sessions for students of any age desiring additional academic assistance during the regular school year and conducts SAT/PSAT preparation for high school students. Contact: Rev. Amanda Rhome
Usher Board: Directs members, supporters, and visitors to available seating; assists congregants; and keeps order during worship services. Contact: Sister Margaret Carter
Women’s Ministry: Supports the spiritual development of women through monthly fellowships and annual retreats so they may serve in their homes, communities, church, and the nation as Godly women leading others to Christ. Contact: Rev. Elizabeth Daffin
Youth Ministry: Equips youth to make a difference through service to others and empowers them to be different through exciting, engaging, and empowering ministry, study, and worship that meet their unique needs. Contact: Rev. Bobby Joe Ford, Jr.
